Classrooms
The capacity of the instructional facilities (classrooms) varies from 20 to 700 students. All lecture rooms are equipped with a projection screen and an overhead projector. The larger halls are equipped with amplifiers combined with portable microphones and there is the possibility for data projectors and videos. The smaller lecture rooms have the option of using a mobile video projector. All the rooms are networked. In addition, the auditoria (lecture halls) are equipped with modern multi-media resources for lecturing and communication.
Three lecture rooms have been equipped for special purposes. Two language labs are available for students to practise their foreign language skills on an individual basis, while being monitored and supervised by the instructor. The equipment comprises approximately 30 network PCs, and audio-visual equipment. A debate classroom is equipped with eight round tables, which can seat four to eight students who can engage in a debate. The instructor can communicate with each group separately from the control desk.
It is worth mentioning that we are in the process of erecting a new classroom which will provide students with working stations that include a big multimedia screen. This will give them the opportunity to work together in an interactive and educational work environment that will give them the chance to truly interact and reach great results.
Computer and Internet infrastructure
Students can use approximately 200 UAntwerp computers, located in various buildings on the FBE campus. A wireless network is also available. Students are able to buy laptops at favourable conditions as a result of an agreement signed between UAntwerp and Dell Computers. The reading rooms of the university’s libraries have public network access points and wireless hotspots for laptops. WiFi access across all campuses is also widely used by our students.
Laboratory facilities
To support (engineering) sciences in the AES BE (applied economic sciences, business economics) programme a practice and demonstration hall has been installed. It comprises 3 parts:
A laboratory for demonstrations and experiments in the disciplines of general chemistry, chemical process technology, and industrial chemistry;
A classroom for experiments and demonstrations supporting the courses electromagnetism and optics, electronics, electricity;
A multi-functional location with both fixed and removable tables for multidiscipline purposes
All places have connection for electricity, compressed air, internet and data communication. Special attention has been paid to safety measures (e.g. safety showers, eye washes, fire blankets, fire extinguishers and emergency fuses). These measures clearly show the state of the art of laboratories and of the necessary safety and health measures to be taken in a business context as well.
The lab runs on the LAB-LIBRARY concept and is managed as a closed library. This requires autonomous, consultative, experimental set-ups: experiments that can be carried out by the students with practically no intervention from the supervising staff. The necessary supervision in this case is taken over by a PC and multi- media resources.
Libraryresources
