The School of Economics and Management (EEG) of University of Minho (UMinho) was founded on 10th March 1982, as an organic unit of education, research and interaction with society. The School’s teaching and research activities focus on the sciences of Economics, Management, Public Administration, Political Science and International Relations. EEG has been establishing itself as: an “Erudite” School, which produces and disseminates scientific knowledge at the highest level; a “Cosmopolitan” School, given the multiplicity and richness of its teaching projects and students; and a Proactive School, due to its ability to project itself into the future, thereby providing education to students who later on outshine within the corporate sector fabric. The School strives to provide teaching projects of excellence. It currently offers 8 Bachelor, 15 Master, and 6 Ph.D. Programmes, to approximately 2500 students (44% of which in the graduate programmes). Its endeavour to delve into internationalisation is based on the offer of several courses and degrees taught in English: 2 Master Programmes and 3 PhD Programmes are fully taught in English. It additionally offers a considerable portfolio of course units taught in English, which attracts international/Erasmus exchange students and partnerships. Currently, EEG has partnerships with over 100 Universities, whilst unfolding a wide multiculturalism, distributed throughout Europe, North America, Latin America, Africa and Asia. In addition to the internationalisation of the syllabus and interaction with international guest speakers, students have the opportunity to undertake any of the international opportunities offered by UMinho and EEG with more than 100 partners worldwide. The quality of our undergraduate and graduate programmes, combined with over 100 initiatives for the strengthening of students’ soft skills, result in one of the highest employment rates among national Universities, and fully justify the total filling of our annual vacancies. The strong demand for our programmes is due to their high quality, which is based on a competent and dynamic faculty, most of whom hold Ph.D. Degrees awarded by reputed foreign universities such as Oxford, Warwick, Amsterdam, Stockholm School of Economics, Cornell or the London School of Economics, among others. EEG is also widely recognised for the quality of its research: it integrates 2 Research Units, one of which achieved a maximum rating of “Excellent" by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), while the other was graded as “Very Good”. In terms of its interaction with society, EEG promotes the inclusion of students and graduates in various organisations and develops projects of applied research, as well as training services targeted at the needs of business/technical professionals. The 27 specialised training courses in our portfolio, as well as the 4 courses designed for Senior Public Administration Professionals, and the Executive Training promoted by UMinho-Exec, represent EEG's endeavour to yield scientific knowledge at the service of the community, thus bridging the academia and the business community. UMinho offers several cultural, associative and sports activities, developed by students through their students’ groups, tunas [musical group of university students], folk music, poetry and fado, among many others. The UMinho Students’ Association is also responsible for the organization of several academic events. Students also have access to medical and psychological support, as well as to over 40 different sports, such as aerobics, weight lifting, athletics, basketball, football, judo, climbing, rugby, tennis, karting, swimming and many more. Our students have the opportunity to participate in several activities that have the objective of integrating them in the society and in the labour market, like Business Day, CEO Talks@EEG and Field Days, for example. All students are encouraged to conduct internships. Students have courses that encourage projects at companies. Those internships can occur during the semester or after graduation.
