Dear SEB LU friends,

This spring marks the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Ljubljana. We are honouring our former and present students, faculty, staff, alumni, supporters, as well as deans. They have been joining forces ever since 1946 to build and promote knowledge and act as catalysts of progress, whether in the school, local corporates and communities, or at an international level.

As we will show you in the following pages, the school has much to celebrate. Our story is filled with enormous effort, impressive achievements and a strong FELU brand established over the past 70 years. We have faced many challenges along the way, be they countless schooling reforms, a fundamental change in the political and economic system, or simply being ahead when it comes to the internationalisation of higher education. We submitted our pioneering efforts to international accreditation processes when it comes to Central and Eastern Europe. We are proud of our strong bonds with the business community, our dedication to ensuring a high quality experience for our students, and our quality research output. Out expanding international network of partner institutions and research collaboration comes as recognition of our quality and the reputation we have built and sustained over the years. Further, we believe that our key competencies depend on our understanding of the uniqueness of different world cultures, our ability to accommodate them, and our flexibility in quickly responding to the ever changing needs of societies. Despite our age, we remain a young, vibrant and research active faculty.

In the new strategy for the period 2016–2020, we see opportunities mostly driven by the demand for high quality higher education and research in the markets in Central Asia, China and India. We consider ourselves well staffed to pursue the FELU’s vision to be the school of international choice for studies and research in business and economics in Central Europe. We believe that our vibrant FELU community, flexibility and innovativeness make us well prepared for the task.

Allow me to take the opportunity to thank everyone who has contributed and still contributes to the FELU story, namely, the former and current faculty, staff, students, alumni, our international partners, and trusted partners in the local community. Your generous efforts have made and are still making possible what the FELU is today – a high quality, internationally recognised school of business and economics.

Looking to the future, I am truly proud to be able to share the FELU story with you, and what today, when celebrating its 70th anniversary, the school has become and has yet has to offer.
